The Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) is preparing to announce the recruitment of a new Commissioner of Police for Fiji. Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration, Pio Tikoduadua, confirmed that the COC has been actively working to fill the leadership role within the Fiji Police Force.
“The COC aims to publish the job advertisement soon. We anticipate that many individuals will apply once it is released, allowing us to appoint a permanent commissioner promptly,” stated Mr. Tikoduadua.
This position became vacant following the resignation of Sitiveni Qiliho earlier this month, who had been suspended since January 27 and is currently serving a two-year prison sentence.
As a result, the COC can proceed with appointing a new Commissioner, while the role is currently being filled by Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew.
The COC functions as an advisory group, providing guidance to the President of Fiji regarding appointments to significant public offices, including that of the Commissioner of Police.
The composition of the COC includes six members: the Prime Minister serves as the chairperson, alongside the Leader of the Opposition and the Attorney-General. Additionally, two members are appointed by the Prime Minister and one by the Opposition Leader.
