The Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) is poised to announce the search for a new Commissioner of Police in the near future. Pio Tikoduadua, the Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration, confirmed that the COC is actively working to identify a new leader for the Fiji Police Force.
Tikoduadua expressed his hope that many individuals would apply for the position once the advertisement is published, facilitating the appointment of a substantive commissioner promptly.
The vacancy was created following the resignation of Sitiveni Qiliho earlier this month. Qiliho had been suspended on January 27 and is currently serving a two-year prison sentence. Consequently, the COC is now able to seek a replacement, with the role currently held by Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew.
The COC acts as an advisory group that assists the President of Fiji in appointing vital public roles, including the Commissioner of Police. This commission consists of six members, including the Prime Minister as the chair, the Leader of the Opposition, and the Attorney-General. Additionally, two members are appointed by the Prime Minister and one member is chosen by the Opposition Leader.
