The Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) is preparing to announce the recruitment of a new Commissioner of Police in Fiji. Pio Tikoduadua, the Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration, confirmed that the COC is taking steps to identify a successor for the Fiji Police Force’s leadership role.
“The COC will soon make the position public. We are hopeful that many candidates will apply, allowing us to appoint a permanent commissioner shortly,” said Mr. Tikoduadua.
The need for a new commissioner arose following the resignation of Sitiveni Qiliho earlier this month, who had been suspended in January and is currently serving a two-year prison sentence. Meanwhile, the position is temporarily filled by Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew.
The COC plays a crucial role in advising the President of Fiji on key public appointments, including that of the Commissioner of Police. It is comprised of six members: the Prime Minister, who chairs the commission, the Leader of the Opposition, the Attorney-General, and three other appointed members, two of whom are chosen by the Prime Minister and one selected by the Leader of the Opposition.
