The Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) is preparing to announce the recruitment of a new Commissioner of Police. Home Affairs and Immigration Minister Pio Tikoduadua stated that the COC is making progress in its search for a new leader for the Fiji Police Force.

“The COC will soon advertise the position. We hope that many candidates will apply once the advertisement is published, allowing us to appoint a substantive commissioner swiftly,” Mr. Tikoduadua remarked.

This opportunity emerged following the resignation of Sitiveni Qiliho, who was suspended on January 27 and is currently serving a two-year prison sentence. Consequently, the COC can move forward with the selection process for a new commissioner. The position is currently filled by Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew.

The COC acts as an advisory body, providing recommendations to the President of Fiji regarding appointments to key public positions, including the Commissioner of Police. The commission consists of six members, including the Prime Minister as chair, the Leader of the Opposition, and the Attorney-General. Additionally, two members are appointed by the Prime Minister, while one is chosen by the Opposition Leader.
