The Fiji Police Force is set to recall at least 10 retired or resigned officers as part of a new initiative aimed at bolstering its investigative teams. Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu made this announcement, clarifying that this recall is a targeted effort meant to enhance the skills and training within the force, rather than a widespread reinstatement of all former officers.
Commissioner Tudravu emphasized the necessity of integrating experienced personnel into ongoing investigations, stating, “We need experienced personnel to assist and, in a way, train our investigations team.” The recalled officers will assume essential roles including assistant superintendent, inspector, sergeant, and corporal, contributing their expertise under the direction of Assistant Commissioner of Crime Mesake Waqa.
To qualify for this recall, applicants must meet specific criteria, including having served a minimum of 15 years in the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and completing CID Level 2 training; Level 3 training is encouraged. Additionally, candidates must not be involved in any pending criminal investigations and must provide certification of their physical and mental fitness from a doctor.
This strategic move aligns with previous announcements from the Fiji Police Force regarding the recruitment of experienced former officers to form specialized task forces aimed at addressing cold cases and complex crime investigations. These efforts reflect a broader commitment within the police force to improve efficiency and community safety by utilizing the seasoned skills of retirees.
The integration of experienced officers not only supports ongoing investigative efforts but also fosters a collaborative environment, promoting knowledge transfer and strengthening the capabilities of newer officers. This initiative holds promise for the future of law enforcement in Fiji, as it enhances the police’s operational effectiveness and demonstrates a genuine dedication to public safety and community trust.
In light of the evolving crime landscape, this focused approach reflects the Fiji Police Force’s proactive stance on addressing community safety challenges, ushering in a hopeful direction for effective policing and justice.
