The Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) is preparing to announce the recruitment of a new Commissioner of Police shortly. Home Affairs and Immigration Minister Pio Tikoduadua stated that the COC is actively working towards appointing a new leader for the Fiji Police Force.
“The COC will soon publish the job advertisement. We are optimistic that there will be applicants once it is released, allowing us to appoint a permanent commissioner quickly,” commented Mr. Tikoduadua.
This vacancy was created when Sitiveni Qiliho, who was suspended on January 27, resigned earlier this month while in the midst of a two-year prison sentence.
With this development, the COC can now begin the search for a new appointee. Currently, the role is being filled by Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew.
The COC serves as an advisory entity that offers guidance to the President of Fiji concerning the appointments of key public positions, including the Commissioner of Police.
The COC consists of six members, including the Prime Minister as chairperson, the Leader of Opposition, and the Attorney-General. Additionally, the Prime Minister selects two members, while one is chosen by the Opposition Leader.
