Fiji Police Force Celebrates Historic Bowl Win with a Tribute

The Fiji Police Force (FPF) celebrated their first victory in the Armed Native Constabulary (ANC) Bowl, dedicating the win to former officers who laid the groundwork for their success. This statement came from head coach Solomone Nute after their 45-31 triumph over the Fiji Corrections Service at the Nasova grounds in Suva yesterday.

The bowl was presented by Ratu Epenisa Cakobau, the Turaga Na Vunivalu of Bau, to the heads of both security forces. This match marked the first contest between the two organizations and coincided with FPF’s 150th Sesquicentennial Anniversary, establishing it as an annual challenge moving forward.

The Police team showcased their strength on home turf, featuring experienced players such as former Fijian Drua prop Timoci Sauvoli, Kini Douglas, and Etonia Rokotuisawa. The Corrections Service squad included notable athletes, including former sevens representative and Olympic gold medallist Josua Vakurinabili, as well as Netani Koroisau.

“This is a milestone for us, especially in light of our 150 years of service for all of Fiji,” Nute remarked. “The Corrections team put up a good fight, but since Nasova is our home ground, we battled fiercely.”

Nute expressed that the victory was particularly meaningful as it honored former police officers who dedicated their lives to service, leaving behind families, children, and grandchildren.

In related news, Nute mentioned that he would be observing today’s Escott Shield Challenge final between Police Blue and Fresh’et Navy to finalize his selections for the FMF Ratu Sukuna Bowl Challenge. “We have won the Escott Shield for two consecutive years, and our message to the boys is that they can triumph if they put their hearts into it. We hope to see them succeed tomorrow,” he stated.

The Escott Shield final is scheduled to take place at Buckhurst Park One at 3 PM, while the Koroturaga final featuring Covenant Red against Nabua White will kick off at 1 PM. Admission fees are set at $7 for adults and $2 for children under 12 years.
