Fiji Police Force Celebrates 150 Years of Service and Sacrifice

It has been a significant journey from Nasova, Levuka to Suva, spanning 150 years, and we take this day to remember those who paved the way for us.

Minister for Home Affairs Pio Tikoduadua made these remarks while presiding over the 150th anniversary celebration of the Fiji Police Force at the Nasova Police grounds in Suva on Friday.

The celebration featured a parade with officers from the Fiji Police Force and the Fiji Corrections Service, which began at the Totogo Police Station and concluded at the academy.

Mr. Tikoduadua highlighted the extraordinary community service provided by the Fiji Police Force over the past century and a half.

“The men and women of the Fiji Police Force have performed their duties under difficult circumstances, often without the recognition they deserve, while remaining steadfast in their commitment to keep our communities safe and uphold the law,” said Mr. Tikoduadua.

“The presence of the Fiji Corrections Service today reflects their essential role. We pay tribute to those who served in both organizations, honoring their dedication and commitment to Fiji’s safety and security, as we would not be where we are today without their contributions.”

The establishment of the Fiji Police Force dates back to October 10, 1874, when the Aide De’ Camp (ADC) to the Governor was appointed Superintendent of Police, marking the official formation of the force as it exists today.
