The journey from Nasova, Levuka to Suva has spanned 150 years, and today we honor those who paved the way. Minister for Home Affairs Pio Tikoduadua made this statement while officiating the 150th anniversary celebration of the Fiji Police Force at the Nasova Police ground in Suva on Friday.
The event featured a parade that included officers from both the Fiji Police Force and the Fiji Corrections Service, beginning at the Totogo Police Station and ending at the academy.
Minister Tikoduadua highlighted the Fiji Police Force’s 150 years of exemplary community service. “The men and women of the Fiji Police Force have executed their responsibilities under challenging circumstances, often without recognition, yet with steadfast commitment to maintaining safety in our communities and upholding the law,” he remarked.
He also noted that the presence of the Fiji Corrections Service at the celebration acknowledged their service. “Today, we pay tribute to those who have served in both institutions, recognizing their dedication, love, and commitment to Fiji. Their contributions have shaped what we are today.”
The establishment of the Fiji Police Force dates back to October 10, 1874, when the first officers were appointed as announced in the Royal Gazette, marking the foundation of the force as it exists now.
