Fiji Police Force Celebrates 150 Years of Service: A Historical Tribute

A significant milestone was celebrated on Friday as Fiji marked the 150th anniversary of the Fiji Police Force at the Nasova Police ground in Suva. Minister for Home Affairs Pio Tikoduadua highlighted the importance of remembering those who laid the groundwork for the force during this sesquicentennial event.

The celebration featured a parade showcasing officers from the Fiji Police Force and the Fiji Corrections Service, moving from the Totogo Police Station to the academy. Mr. Tikoduadua praised the Fiji Police Force for its century and a half of dedicated community service, emphasizing the challenges faced by its personnel.

He stated, “The men and women of the Fiji Police Force have carried out their duties under challenging conditions with little recognition, yet with unwavering dedication to maintaining the safety of our communities and upholding the law.”

The involvement of the Fiji Corrections Service underscored the importance of recognizing all who have served. Mr. Tikoduadua honored past members of both institutions, acknowledging their dedication and commitment to Fiji throughout history.

The Fiji Police Force was officially established with the appointment of its first officers, detailed in a notice published in the Royal Gazette on October 10, 1874.
