Fiji Police Force Celebrates 150 Years of Dedication and Service

A significant milestone was marked on Friday as Fiji celebrated the 150th anniversary of the Fiji Police Force at the Nasova Police ground in Suva. Minister for Home Affairs Pio Tikoduadua highlighted this historic journey from Nasova, Levuka to Suva, acknowledging those who have contributed over the years.

The anniversary event featured a parade involving officers from the Fiji Police Force and the Fiji Corrections Service, showcasing their commitment and service to the community.

Mr. Tikoduadua emphasized the Fiji Police Force’s remarkable community service over the past 150 years. He stated, “The men and women of the Fiji Police Force have carried out their duties under challenging conditions with little recognition and yet unwavering dedication to keeping our communities safe and upholding the rule of law.”

He also acknowledged the participation of the Fiji Corrections Service, honoring the dedication and commitment of all those who have served in both institutions. He reflected on how their contributions have shaped Fiji into what it is today.

The Fiji Police Force was officially established on October 10, 1874, following a notice published in the Royal Gazette that named the Superintendent of Police and appointed its first officers.
