Fiji Police Enhance Child Protection Skills with New Training Program

Fiji Police Force investigators are currently participating in a child specialist interview training program that involves the use of video recorded interview (VRI) rooms. This initiative is being facilitated by the New Zealand Police as part of the Fiji Police Partnership Program.

Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Sakeo Raikaci emphasized the significance of thorough investigations, stating that they are crucial for successful prosecutions and play a vital role in proactive policing efforts.

He acknowledged the grim reality that millions of children around the globe face the threats of crime and sexual violence. Mr. Raikaci pointed out that children in Fiji are similarly at risk on a daily basis, a fact reflected in monthly crime statistics.

He conveyed that by conducting thorough investigations and achieving successful prosecutions, the police would be able to send a strong deterrent message regarding child safety.
