The Fiji Police Force soccer team has successfully defended its title in the Vodafone Ratu Sukuna Bowl Football Challenge, delivering a decisive 6-1 victory over the Army at the HFC Bank Stadium, despite challenging rainy conditions.
The match showcased a dominant performance from the Police team, featuring a plethora of district and national players who dictated the game’s pace from the outset. In the first half, they established a 1-0 lead, thanks to striker Sairusi Nalaubu, who was later named man of the match.
As the second half unfolded, Nalaubu extended his tally to two goals, while teammate Ratu Apenisa Anare also contributed significantly with two goals of his own. The Army managed to find the net with a consolation goal from forward Salacieli Dakunaibuca late in the match. This sparked hope among Army supporters for a potential comeback. However, the momentum quickly shifted when Dakunaibuca received a straight red card shortly after scoring for unsportsmanlike conduct.
The Police team capitalized on their numerical advantage, with Tevita Warainaivalu and Ilisoni Lolaivalu each adding a goal, firmly concluding the match with a final score of 6-1.
This victory not only highlights the strength of the Fiji Police soccer team but also serves as a reminder of the importance of sportsmanship in competitive environments. Such achievements in local sports contribute positively to community spirit and foster a sense of pride among supporters. The Police team’s success may inspire younger players across Fiji to pursue their athletic ambitions, signaling a bright future for soccer in the region.
