The Fiji Police Boxing Team emerged victorious at the Vodafone Sukuna Bowl Boxing Challenge held at the LICI Courts in Laucala Bay, securing the overall title by winning five out of nine final categories.
Petero Vunivalu made a significant impact by clinching the gold medal in the 60-63kg division, defeating Emosi Vucago. Vunivalu continued his winning streak by also taking gold in the 63.5-67kg category, triumphing over the Army’s Meli Cabebula through a unanimous points decision.
The Police team showcased their strength further in the 67-71kg division. Josaia Veiqaravi showcased his prowess against Isikeli Rogoyawa from the Army, while Vilimoni Naivaluwaqa secured victory by knocking out Meli Naumi, also from the Army, in the same weight category. Victor Rova rounded off the Police’s success by defeating fellow officer Nemani Tuinalolo through a points decision.
The Army secured wins in several categories as well. Keleto Tawake won the 57-60kg grade against teammate Rusiate Qalo. Aminiasi Saratibau earned the gold medal in the 75-80kg weight class, beating Naibuka Kumuiwalu on points. In an all-Army matchup in the 80-86kg grade, Samuela Naqiri emerged victorious over Vilimoni Drotini. The Army concluded the event with Sakiusa Narara besting Solomoni Tikoisuva of the Police in their final bout.
