The Fiji Police Force has issued a clarification regarding rumors of drug injection incidents involving coconuts or ‘bu’. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, reassured the public that claims of police encounters with two individuals allegedly injecting drugs into coconuts are unfounded.

The clarification followed an incident on Thursday, November 21, when the Samabula operations team, on mobile patrol in the Namadi area, received reports from a citizen about two men behaving suspiciously. Officers located the individuals on a nearby footpath and conducted a search, finding no illicit substances.

ACP Driu noted that the men are known to sell coconuts along Princess Road, which may have contributed to the rumors surrounding their activities. However, he emphasized that they were not involved in any wrongdoing, as confirmed by the officers’ report.

The Fiji Police Force encourages the community to share information through their confidential platforms, ensuring that any concerns can be properly investigated.

This clarification serves to remind the public of the importance of verifying information before spreading rumors, particularly in today’s fast-paced information environment. By relying on established authorities like the police for accurate information, the community can maintain trust and safety. It’s always vital to engage in open communication with law enforcement to address any concerns effectively.
