Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu has dismissed as false social media claims that three police officers were recently arrested in connection with the killing of Police Constable Peniasi Racagi in Lami. Tudravu said the allegations circulating online are inaccurate and warned the public against sharing unverified reports that could impede the ongoing inquiry.
“We can confirm the information in circulation of the arrests of three police officers is false,” Commissioner Tudravu said, adding that neither the investigation team led by the Divisional Crime Officer Southern nor the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) have made any recent arrests related to alleged police involvement. The CID remains tasked with pursuing any credible information about possible officer involvement, he said.
This clarification is the latest development in the probe into the death of Constable 8012 Peniasi Racagi. Authorities previously completed a post-mortem and transferred findings to investigators. Two men — identified in earlier police statements as 42-year-old Keni Salawai and 20-year-old Jope Seniloli, both from Qauia in Lami — have been charged with murder and remain in custody as the case is prepared for the High Court.
Commissioner Tudravu reiterated calls issued since the start of the investigation for calm and patience while detectives piece together evidence. He said misinformation can disrupt investigative work and inflame community tensions, pointing to previous instances where false claims were publicly refuted by police during the inquiry.
The Police Force continues to seek public assistance. Anyone with information relevant to the investigation has been encouraged to come forward through official channels, including the police toll-free line at 1681. Tudravu urged that tips be provided through those verified avenues rather than posted on social media.
Investigators have been working to establish the full circumstances around Racagi’s death, alleged to have occurred between February 21 and 22, 2026. With court processes under way for the two men charged, police say they will update the public on material developments through formal briefings and confirmed statements.
