The Fiji Police’s M-PAiSA task force has filed charges against two individuals for allegedly engaging in financial deception via the mobile money transfer application.
The accused, a 29-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman, both reside in Davuilevu and Koronivia. They are suspected of collaborating in a rental car scam. Reports indicate that on September 17, they created several Facebook accounts to advertise rental cars, instructing potential customers to make payments through the M-PAiSA app.
A victim from Nadi became entangled in this scam after he transferred $190 to the mobile number provided by the suspects. Upon attempting to contact them, he soon realized he had been deceived and promptly reported the incident at the Nadi Police Station.
Both individuals have been charged with one count each for Obtaining Financial Advantage By Deception and Dishonestly Dealing with Personal Financial Information. They are scheduled to appear in the Nasinu Magistrates Court today.
