The Fiji Police Force has been making nearly daily arrests of individuals linked to illicit trade. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu addressed concerns regarding the perceived inaction from law enforcement in tackling this issue, emphasizing their active engagement in ongoing efforts. He stated, “We are making arrests almost on a daily basis, and this reflects our commitment to reducing illicit activities. Every arrest and seizure contributes to these efforts.”
ACP Driu elaborated that all information received about illicit trade is meticulously evaluated and acted upon in a timely manner. He noted that the intricacies of drug operations can vary, often requiring time to execute effectively, as the primary goal is securing successful prosecutions.
Several specialized units, including the Fiji Detector Dog Unit, the K9 Unit, and the Serious Organized Crime and Intelligence Unit, support these operations in various divisions. ACP Driu highlighted the essential role that the community plays, expressing appreciation for the increased cooperation with law enforcement, particularly the willingness to share information and contribute to community empowerment through numerous invitations for awareness initiatives.
He encouraged community members to connect with their local Crime Prevention Committees (CPC) and Neighbourhood Watch Zones through their respective Divisional Manager Community Policing (DMCP).
