The Fiji Police Force has reported that recent snap checks have proven effective in uncovering illicit substances. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, highlighted a significant operation at a roadblock in Bagasau, where officers from the Tukavesi Police Station stopped a bus and discovered a black bag containing dried leaves suspected to be marijuana.
ACP Driu noted another successful operation on Sabeto Road where officers seized several branches of dried leaves believed to be marijuana on Monday night. This led to the arrest of two individuals in a vehicle involved in the incident.
In a separate operation, the Southern Division’s Serious Organised Crime and Intelligence Unit (SD/SOCIU) apprehended a 35-year-old man from Navua after he was found with multiple sachets containing white substances thought to be methamphetamine, along with more dried leaves believed to be marijuana. Following this, another man from Navua, also 35 years old, was arrested for possession of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana.
The SD SOCIU, aided by the K9 Unit and the Fiji Detector Dog Unit, conducted a raid in Raiwai that resulted in the arrest of a man and a woman. During this operation, authorities discovered white substances presumed to be methamphetamine, various items suspected to be stolen, and both local and foreign currency.
All confiscated substances have been forwarded for analysis, and police have announced that joint raids will persist across the five policing divisions to combat drug-related issues.
This proactive approach by the Fiji Police demonstrates a commitment to enhancing community safety and addressing drug-related challenges effectively. With ongoing efforts to conduct snap checks and raids, there is potential for improving overall public health and safety, as well as reducing drug trafficking in the region.
Summary: The Fiji Police Force has made considerable strides in drug enforcement through recent snap checks, leading to the seizure of suspected illicit substances and several arrests. Continued operations aim to enhance public safety and tackle drug-related crime effectively.
