The Fiji Police Force has reported that their recent snap checks are successfully resulting in the seizure of illicit substances. According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu, officers from the Tukavesi Police Station conducted a stop at a roadblock, leading to the discovery of a black bag containing dried leaves suspected to be marijuana in a bus’s luggage compartment.

In another operation on Monday night at Sabeto Road, police confiscated several branches of dried leaves also believed to be marijuana. Two individuals traveling in the vehicle were arrested in connection with these findings.

Furthermore, during a search conducted by the Southern Division’s Serious Organised Crime and Intelligence Unit (SD/SOCIU), a 35-year-old man from Navua was allegedly found with multiple sachets of a white substance suspected to be methamphetamine, along with dried branches of marijuana. Another arrest was made of a man, also 35 and from Navua, during a separate search where he was discovered with similar dried branches.

A raid executed by the SD SOCIU, K9 unit, and Fiji Detector Dog Unit in Raiwai led to the apprehension of two men and a woman, resulting in the seizure of substances believed to be methamphetamine, suspected stolen items, and both foreign and local currencies.

All seized materials have been forwarded for analysis. According to ACP Driu, these joint operations will persist across the five policing divisions as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug-related crimes in the region.

This proactive approach is a promising step in increasing public safety and tackling the drug problem effectively, showcasing the police’s commitment to curbing illicit activities in Fiji. Regular operations like these not only help in deterring drug-related crimes but also foster a sense of community safety.
