The Fiji Police Force has reported successful results from recent snap checks aimed at combating drug-related offenses, leading to multiple seizures of illegal substances. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu highlighted the effectiveness of these operations, noting a significant find at a roadblock on Bagasau Road where officers from the Tukavesi Police Station discovered a black bag containing dried leaves believed to be marijuana in the luggage compartment of a bus.
ACP Driu detailed another check on Monday night conducted at Sabeto Road, which also resulted in the seizure of branches of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana, leading to the arrest of two individuals in the vehicle.
In a separate incident, the Southern Division’s Serious Organised Crime and Intelligence Unit (SD/SOCIU) apprehended a 35-year-old man in Navua with several sachets of white substances thought to be methamphetamine, along with more dried marijuana. Another man of the same age from the same area was arrested shortly after for possessing dried branches believed to be marijuana.
A coordinated raid involving the SD SOCIU, K9, and Fiji Detector Dog Unit conducted in Raiwai led to the arrests of two men and a woman. The operation uncovered white substances believed to be methamphetamine, items suspected to be stolen, and a mix of foreign and local currencies.
All confiscated substances are currently undergoing analysis, and the police have indicated that joint raids will persist across all five policing divisions to sustain their efforts in tackling drug-related crimes.
This news sheds light on the ongoing commitment of the Fiji Police to maintain community safety and combat drug trafficking. The proactive approach demonstrated by the authorities not only addresses current issues but also aims to deter future offenses by showing that drug-related activities will not be tolerated. Together with community support, these crackdowns could lead to a safer environment for all Fijians.
