The Fiji Police Force is reporting positive outcomes from their recent snap checks aimed at combating illicit drug activities. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu shared that, during a roadblock on Bagasau, officers from the Tukavesi Police Station discovered a bag containing dried leaves suspected to be marijuana after inspecting the luggage compartment of a bus.

In a separate operation on Sabeto Road on Monday night, additional dried leaves believed to be marijuana were seized, leading to the arrest of the two individuals in the vehicle. ACP Driu noted that another operation conducted by the Southern Division’s Serious Organised Crime and Intelligence Unit (SD/SOCIU) led to the apprehension of a 35-year-old man in Navua, who was found with several sachets of white powder thought to be methamphetamine and dried marijuana leaves.

Furthermore, the same unit carried out a follow-up search resulting in the arrest of another 35-year-old man, also from Navua, after he was found with dried marijuana leaves. An extensive raid by the SD SOCIU, K9, and the Fiji Detector Dog Unit in Raiwai yesterday culminated in the detention of two men and a woman. During this operation, authorities uncovered methamphetamine, various stolen items, and both foreign and local currency.

All confiscated substances are currently undergoing analysis, and police confirmed that joint raids will persist across all five policing divisions.

This proactive approach demonstrates the commitment of the Fiji Police Force to maintain public safety and reduce drug-related offenses in the community. Such efforts not only hold offenders accountable but also contribute to a broader campaign to ensure a healthier, safer environment for all residents.

In summary, the Fiji Police are making significant strides in tackling drug offenses through their increased surveillance and strategic operations, signaling a hopeful direction towards enhanced safety for the nation.
