The Fiji Police Force is reporting significant successes in their efforts to combat drug-related crimes through targeted snap checks. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu highlighted recent operations, including a notable incident at a roadblock in Bagasau, where officers from the Tukavesi Police Station discovered marijuana in a bus’s luggage compartment. During additional checks, authorities seized dried leaves suspected to be marijuana on Sabeto Road.
Two individuals were arrested in connection with these finds. Furthermore, the Southern Division’s Serious Organised Crime and Intelligence Unit (SD/SOCIU) conducted thorough searches, resulting in the arrest of a 35-year-old man in Navua who had methamphetamine and more marijuana in his possession. Another individual, also aged 35 and from Navua, was apprehended shortly after with more dried marijuana.
In a coordinated raid involving the SD SOCIU, K9, and Fiji Detector Dog Unit in Raiwai, police arrested two men and a woman after uncovering methamphetamine, items believed to be stolen, and a mix of local and foreign currencies. All confiscated substances have been forwarded for further analysis.
The police have emphasized that these joint operations will persist across all five policing divisions, underscoring their commitment to tackling drug-related crimes.
This proactive approach by the Fiji Police reflects a strong determination to promote community safety and welfare. By rigorously enforcing drug laws and conducting thorough checks, the police are sending a clear message that drug trafficking will not be tolerated. Continued vigilance and community cooperation might ultimately lead to a safer environment for all citizens.
