The Fiji Police Force is making significant strides in combating drug-related crimes through proactive snap checks that have led to multiple seizures of illegal substances. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, reported that officers at a roadblock on Bagasau successfully discovered a black bag filled with dried leaves, suspected to be marijuana, in the luggage compartment of a bus.
Further operations included a snap check on Sabeto Road, where additional dried leaves believed to be marijuana were confiscated, resulting in the arrest of two individuals in the vehicle. Moreover, a coordinated effort by the Southern Division’s Serious Organised Crime and Intelligence Unit uncovered more illegal substances. A 35-year-old man from Navua was arrested for possessing sachets of white powder, suspected to be methamphetamine, in addition to more marijuana.
In another operation led by the same unit, a raid in Raiwai yielded two men and a woman who were apprehended after authorities found methamphetamine, stolen items, and both foreign and local currencies. The Fiji Police have emphasized that all confiscated substances are undergoing analysis to confirm their contents.
With plans for continued joint raids across the five policing divisions, the Fiji Police are committed to enhancing community safety. These efforts not only signal the determination of law enforcement to tackle drug-related issues but also reflect a strong community engagement strategy aiming to foster a safer environment for all residents. This is a positive development in the fight against illegal drugs and highlights the importance of vigilance and proactive policing in maintaining public order.
