Police in Fiji are intensifying their efforts to dismantle drug supply chains through a wave of raids and arrests across all five policing divisions. Over the past week, operations have yielded significant outcomes, particularly in the seizure of marijuana plants, dried leaves, seeds, and substantial cash amounts.

In the Western Division, a notable arrest includes a 39-year-old man from Tagitagi, Tavua, who was apprehended after police conducted a search of his property and discovered marijuana plants believed to be cultivated on his farm. Similarly, in the Eastern Division, officers uncovered a marijuana farm in Nabulini and are currently working to identify the property owner.

Further arrests occurred in Korovou and Levuka, where individuals were taken into custody for possession of illicit substances. In Wailoaloa, Nadi, police arrested a 26-year-old woman after they seized multiple parcels of dried leaves thought to be marijuana from her residence. A separate operation in Nasinu led to the arrest of four men, helped by a police dog from the K9 Herb unit that discovered sachets of dried leaves hidden in an old couch outside their home, along with over $1,000 in cash.

Additional operations in both the Western and Southern Divisions resulted in more drug-related arrests. Police have ramped up divisional operations with support from the Serious Organized Crime and Intelligence Unit, the Fiji Detector Dog Unit, and the Narcotics Bureau.

The Fiji Police Force emphasizes the critical role of community cooperation in these efforts, expressing gratitude for public support. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu highlighted the importance of information sharing in combating the drug trade, stating that it serves as a strong warning to those engaged in illegal activities.

The ongoing police initiatives are promising signals of progress in the fight against drug-related crimes, striving towards a safer, healthier community. These targeted actions reaffirm the police’s commitment to maintaining security and addressing the growing issues of substance abuse effectively.
