A recent two-week operation along the Martintar to Nadi corridor resulted in the Fiji Police Force recording a total of 22 cases across various offenses. Divisional Police Commander West, Senior Superintendent of Police Iakobo Vaisewa, reported that these offenses included assault, theft, property damage, serious assault, common nuisance, and drug-related activities.
The special operation commenced on January 7, 2025, focusing on enhancing safety in the area through a heightened police presence. In addition to addressing criminal activities, officers conducted community perception surveys to foster collaboration between the police and local businesses regarding safety concerns.
SSP Vaisewa emphasized the importance of community feedback, stating, “We take all the concerns raised on board and will continue to review our operations for the safety and security of all.” The initiative is set to continue, with a review planned for February 7, 2025.
This operation reflects the commitment of the Fiji Police to not only tackle crime but also build trust and cooperation with the community, paving the way for safer neighborhoods. The collaborative approach highlights the significance of community input in shaping effective policing strategies.
