Fiji Police Chief Calls for Change Amid Integrity Concerns

Acting Commissioner Juki Fong Chew reaffirmed that the Fiji Police Force as an institution is not corrupt, attributing negative perceptions to the actions of a few individuals. During the Division’s Medal award ceremony at the Fiji Police Academy, Chew urged officers to focus on improving public perception through their professional conduct.

He highlighted the importance of unity in transforming how the community views the police. While acknowledging that he has received commendations for their efforts, he noted these are overshadowed by the negative impact of any officer facing legal action. “I accept the criticism positively, knowing that change is possible within our officers,” Chew stated.

He motivated the officers to persist with their commendable work in the face of evolving criminal challenges, encouraging them to view each day as a chance to excel and serve better for themselves, their families, and the community.

During the ceremony, Chew presented several awards, including the Fiji Police Medal, Fiji Police Long Service Medal, and Fiji Police Overseas Service Medals to officers from various units, including Police Headquarters, the Criminal Investigations Department, and the Fiji Police Academy, among others.
