Fiji Police Chief Calls for Change Amid Corruption Concerns

Acting Commissioner Juki Fong Chew has asserted that the Fiji Police Force is not corrupt, attributing any negative perception to the actions of a few individuals. During the Division’s Medal award ceremony at the Fiji Police Academy, Chew urged officers to strive for improved public perception through their professional conduct.

He emphasized the need for collective efforts to reshape this image, acknowledging that while he has received praise for their work, such commendations are overshadowed by the damage caused when an officer faces legal issues. “I embrace the criticism positively, confident that police officers can transform,” he stated.

Chew encouraged the officers to persist in their commendable work amidst the shifting landscape of crime. He urged them to view each day as a chance to enhance their efforts for their own benefit, their families, and the community they serve.

During the ceremony, he presented the Fiji Police Medal, the Fiji Police Long Service Medal, and the Fiji Police Overseas Service Medals to officers from various divisions, including headquarters, the Criminal Investigations Department, Special Branch, Police Mobile Force, Fiji Police Academy, Forensics and Science Services, Operations, Traffic Unit, Building and Maintenance Unit, Bands, and WATERPOL.
