The head of the Fiji Police Force has expressed deep remorse to the family and traditional leaders of a fallen officer, acknowledging failures tied to his untimely death. Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu offered this heartfelt apology during the funeral of Constable Peniasi Waqawai Racagi, held in Naviqiri Village.
Commissioner Tudravu extended his request for forgiveness to the Gone Turaga na Tui Bua, the local community, and Racagi’s family, citing what he referred to as organisational shortcomings within the police force. Constable Racagi lost his life while courageously serving and protecting his community.
During the solemn ceremony, attended by fellow police members, government officials, and other disciplined services, Commissioner Tudravu commemorated Racagi’s unwavering dedication and valor. He emphasized that Racagi’s commitment to his duty will remain etched in the memories of those he served, describing him as an officer who upheld his oath to protect his community until his last breath.
