Fiji Police Celebrates 150 Years of Service with Vibrant Procession

The Fiji Police Force celebrated its 150th anniversary with a grand procession in Suva, in partnership with the Fiji Correction Service. The event featured speeches from prominent figures, including the Minister for Home Affairs, Pio Tikoduadua, who presided over the ceremony.

During his speech, Minister Tikoduadua emphasized the bravery, dedication, and sacrifices made by police officers, both past and present, in their efforts to maintain peace and security throughout the nation. He acknowledged the ongoing service of current officers and the necessity for law enforcement to adapt to the changing demands of society.

“This celebration goes beyond just commemorating our history; it is a tribute to the dedication and sacrifices of those who came before us and those who serve today. The members of the Fiji Police Force perform their duties in difficult circumstances, often without recognition, and with unwavering commitment to ensuring community safety and upholding the rule of law,” Tikoduadua stated.

The anniversary event not only reflected on the historical significance of the Fiji Police Force but also served as a platform to discuss its future. Tikoduadua highlighted the importance of community involvement and national security, stating that the responsibilities of law enforcement now extend beyond traditional policing roles.

“The Police Reset represents a commitment to transform the operations of the Fiji Police Force in a rapidly evolving environment,” he explained.

The vibrant procession, which took place earlier in the day, attracted spectators from across the city. The streets were lined with onlookers cheering as officers marched proudly, celebrating this significant milestone.

Throughout its long history, the Fiji Police Force has played a crucial role in maintaining law and order.
