The Fiji Police Force is emphasizing the need for caution as heavy rain and flooding are affecting various regions of the country during the Christmas season.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, has noted that water levels are increasing, and he has advised parents to keep their children away from areas prone to flooding. He highlighted the importance of safety, referencing previous incidents where parental negligence resulted in serious consequences.

“The Weather Office has issued alerts for the next few days, and reports of flooding in certain areas have already begun to come in. We urge all parents to ensure their children are kept away from flooded waters,” stated ACP Driu.

Throughout the festive season, police will be vigilant in monitoring affected areas with the aim of preventing accidents. “Police will actively assess the situation on the ground and inspect flooded locales. On Christmas Eve, we want to prevent any unfortunate incidents,” he added.

ACP Driu has also appealed for community cooperation to maintain safety during the holiday period.

This holiday season serves as a reminder for everyone to prioritize safety and look out for one another. Through community awareness and responsibility, we can enjoy the festivities while ensuring the well-being of all.
