The Fiji Police Force is reporting positive outcomes from recent snap checks aimed at curbing drug-related activities in the region. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu shared that officers at a roadblock on Bagasau discovered a black bag containing dried leaves suspected to be marijuana, which was found in the luggage compartment of a bus. This significant find is part of a broader effort to combat illicit drug trafficking.
On Monday night, additional checks resulted in the confiscation of several branches of suspected marijuana at Sabeto Road. During these operations, two individuals have been arrested in connection with the drug discoveries.
In another operation, members of the Southern Division’s Serious Organised Crime and Intelligence Unit apprehended a 35-year-old man in Navua who was allegedly carrying multiple sachets of a white substance suspected to be methamphetamine, along with more dried leaves believed to be marijuana. This same unit conducted a follow-up search that led to the arrest of another local man, also 35 years old, who had marijuana in his possession.
A recent raid carried out by the Southern Division SOCIU, assisted by the K9 and Fiji Detector Dog Unit, resulted in the apprehension of two men and a woman in Raiwai. This operation uncovered not only white substances suspected to be methamphetamine but also items believed to be stolen property and foreign as well as Fijian currency.
All seized substances have been sent for thorough analysis to determine their composition. ACP Driu indicated that these coordinated efforts will continue across all five policing divisions to further enhance community safety.
The ongoing operations by the Fiji Police reflect a strong commitment to tackling drug-related crimes, bringing hope for a safer environment for residents. The community can expect further collaborative efforts to combat illicit substance abuse, promoting public health and safety in Fiji.
