The Fiji Police has appointed Superintendent Ilaitia Caginavanua as the new Security Advisor to the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Secretariat, as announced by Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu. Caginavanua’s role will primarily focus on implementing the MSG Security Strategy, addressing security concerns, and advising member states on collective policing strategies related to security matters.

Superintendent Caginavanua brings extensive experience to the position, previously serving in the Fiji Police Force’s International Relations Unit, where he coordinated various regional and international security collaborations. His past notable achievements include being appointed in 2019 as the Pacific Advisor under the Seconded Police Officer Program to the Australian Federal Police, leading efforts that culminated in the launch of the Pacific Community for Law Enforcement Cooperation in 2020.

An alumnus of the Australian Awards Scholarship, Caginavanua holds a post-graduate degree from Curtin University in Perth. He has held several key responsibilities within the Fiji Police, including leadership roles in Community Policing, Intelligence, and Operational Command in different divisions.

Commissioner Tudravu expressed confidence in Caginavanua’s abilities, wishing him success in the new role and underlining the importance of continued collaboration between the Fiji Police and the MSG Secretariat to ensure peace and security in the region.

This appointment highlights a progressive step for fostering stronger regional security ties, building upon Fiji’s commitment to enhance cooperation in law enforcement across the Pacific. As areas like transnational crime are on the rise, such leadership roles are instrumental in solidifying strategic collaborative frameworks throughout the region.

Overall, Superintendent Caginavanua’s move reflects a proactive approach to addressing security challenges in the Pacific, instilling optimism for enhanced cooperation and stability among MSG member states.
