Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has called on the public to respect the rule of law in light of recent developments concerning the tragic death of a police officer. The body of the officer was discovered in Lami last Sunday, and Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu has since confirmed that a post-mortem examination indicated signs of possible foul play.
As investigations into the circumstances of the officer’s death continue, Rabuka expressed his confidence in the investigative team, emphasizing the importance of upholding the law. He stated, “Abide by the law. And to the executors of the duties of law enforcement, I trust them… and I have confidence in them to come up with a proper recommendation on how we counter… these activities that are being directed against law enforcement agencies.”
The officer in question, twenty-four-year-old Constable Peni Racagi, joined the Fiji Police Force in 2022 and was nearing his fourth year of service. While further details remain undisclosed, the ongoing investigation is critical to determining the events that led to this unfortunate incident.
This situation underscores the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies and highlights the cooperation needed from the community to ensure safety and uphold justice. The Prime Minister’s appeal for public respect towards the law is a hopeful reminder of the collective responsibility to support the safety and integrity of those who serve and protect.
