Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced a significant Cabinet reshuffle, appointing Sakiasi Ditoka as Fiji’s new Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade. This change, effective from January 19, 2026, signals a strategic adjustment in ministerial roles as the government approaches the culmination of its third year in power.
Rabuka conveyed the importance of these changes in a press statement, stating that several ministers would be reassigned to new positions to enhance operational efficiency and government effectiveness. The new appointments under this reshuffle include:
– Sakiasi Ditoka: Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade
– Mosese Bulitavu: Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management
– Lynda Tabuya: Minister for Information, Environment and Climate Change
– Charan Jeath Singh: Minister for Public Enterprises, Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Culture, Heritage, and Arts
– Ifereimi Vasu: Minister for iTaukei Affairs, which now encompasses iTaukei culture, heritage, and arts
– Tomasi Tunabuna: Minister for Agriculture and Sugar Industry
In addition to these new appointments, Rabuka confirmed that he would retain oversight of key areas such as the Civil Service and strategic planning, emphasizing the continuity of leadership in these critical sectors.
The Prime Minister also announced changes to the office accommodation arrangements, indicating that the office accommodation and housing unit would transition to the Ministry of Public Works while maintaining that the Ministry of Civil Service will oversee the broader housing policy for the government.
Further, Rabuka confirmed the reassignment of Sachida Nand to the role of Assistant Minister in the Ministry of Commerce and Business Development.
He expressed that the reshuffle comes at an important juncture as the government enters its fourth year, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to serving the Fijian people effectively. This proactive move aims to strengthen governance and ensure that the government remains responsive to the needs of its citizens.
