Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced that he and his family have commenced relocating to the official Prime Minister’s residence located at 224 Ratu Sukuna Road. This move signifies a return to a property that was specifically designed for the nation’s leader.
In a video address, Mr. Rabuka confirmed that the move began recently and he shared insights about the residence’s historical significance. He noted, “Today is also the first day of our moving houses, to 224 Ratu Sukuna Road.” He elaborated that this residence was formally designated as the Prime Minister’s home following its purchase in the early 1990s and expressed enthusiasm from his family about returning to a familiar setting.
The Prime Minister further explained that the residence he currently occupies is not intended for the head of government but is meant for the judiciary. “This building here belongs rightfully to the Chief Justice, and 224 was especially bought for the Prime Minister to be the Prime Minister’s residence, as there was no residence at that time,” he stated.
Rabuka’s return to the official residence underscores a dedication to utilizing the property that serves a historical and functional purpose for the leadership of Fiji. With feelings of nostalgia and a positive outlook for engaging with the duties of his office from a suitable environment, the Prime Minister’s move is symbolic of stability and continuity in governance.
