Fiji Pearls head coach Una Rokoura revealed the western and central Fiji Pearls squads over the weekend following the FinanceHub Super League main final, which featured the Suva Swifts IGA against the Lautoka Stars.
The central squad includes players from the Tailevu Doves, Nasinu Tactix, and Suva Swifts, while the western squad is made up of athletes from the Nadroga Stallions, Nadi Netball, and Lautoka Stars.
These extended squads will participate in selection camps in Lautoka and Suva during the off-season, which will lead to the final squad selection.
In addition to the main Fiji Pearls team, two additional teams, Fiji A West and Fiji A Central, will also be selected. These teams will be part of the high-performance program within their respective districts.
Coach Rokoura mentioned that the players were identified during the 2024 netball season and that they will undergo training selection camps with their respective squads. “At the end of these camps, we will name the Fiji Pearls Squad, Fiji A Central Squad, and Fiji A Western Squad. The Pearl’s squad will comprise 17 players, while each Fiji A squad will consist of 15 players.”
Rokoura emphasized the importance of establishing two Fiji A squads to broaden the player pool within the high-performance player pool, acknowledging this as a significant area for improvement following the 2022-2023 WNC Campaign. The initiative offers potential players a fair opportunity to be part of the high-performance system while ensuring a robust pool of players is available for selection.
