Netball Fiji is moving forward with the search for a new head coach for the Fiji Pearls following the recent closure of applications on November 22. The vacancy, which was advertised on November 5, drew only two overseas candidates, as confirmed by Netball Fiji president RubyAnn Sorovaki.
Interviews are set to take place in the next two weeks, with the new head coach expected to be appointed before January. Outgoing coach Unaisi Rokoura is currently on her final week of duty, having opted not to renew her contract and is slated to take leave thereafter. Both Rokoura and the CEO’s three-year terms expired this year.
In addition to the coaching search, Sorovaki indicated that all four applicants for the CEO position are local candidates, and they too will be interviewed. The new appointments for both roles are anticipated to be finalized by the end of the month, ushering in a new era for Netball Fiji.
Regarding the Pacific Series that was discussed with Netball New Zealand earlier this year, Sorovaki noted that ongoing funding opportunities and team preparations prompted the decision to cancel for now. The aim is to ensure that Fiji is adequately prepared to meet the high expectations of hosting such a significant event in the future.
This period of transition presents an opportunity for Netball Fiji to blend fresh perspectives with local insight, potentially revitalizing the team’s strategy and approach. With the upcoming appointments, fans and supporters can remain hopeful for a promising future for the Fiji Pearls as they prepare for new challenges ahead.
