The Fiji Pearls are in a time crunch, with only five weeks remaining before they compete in the PacAusSports Series in Brisbane, Australia next month. The extended training squad gathered for a fitness and regrouping session at the FMF Gymnasium in Laucala Bay, Suva, to kick off their preparation.

Head coach Jioweli Vakamoce emphasized that the upcoming weeks will focus primarily on enhancing the players’ fitness levels to ensure they are well-prepared for the tournament. “The (Pac)AusSports Series is in February, so we only have five weeks, so the only thing we will look at is their fitness,” Vakamoce said, highlighting the importance of this foundational aspect.

During training, players were rigorously tested, pushing their limits in a high-energy session designed to build strength and endurance. As the new year celebrations fade, the team is ramping up their training intensity, also drawing insights from the successful strategies of the Fiji men’s netball team, whose recent victory in Singapore has inspired modifications in their training program.

Vakamoce stated, “We designed a new program for the men and we are adopting a few points for the Pearls now and we are hoping that it will work for them as well.” This innovative approach reflects a commitment to adapt and grow, aiming for a successful performance in the upcoming series.

Overall, the Fiji Pearls are embracing a proactive attitude towards their training, seeking to combine fitness with strategic enhancements drawn from their male counterparts’ success. With dedication and hard work, they are poised to make a significant impact in the competitive environment of the PacAusSports Series.

In summary, the Fiji Pearls are intensifying their training regimen with a primary focus on fitness, hoping to leverage successful strategies from the men’s team as they prepare for their upcoming series in Australia. This dedication and adaptability could bode well for their performance on the international stage.

Positive take: The Fiji Pearls’ commitment to training and willingness to adapt strategies from successful teams demonstrates their determination and potential for success, fostering hope for a strong showing in the competitive series ahead.
