Fiji Pearls Lean on Young Talent for Home Win Over British Army

The Fiji Pearls invitational team triumphed in a friendly match against the British Army, achieving a score of 48-36 at the Vodafone Arena in Suva. The match provided a platform for both teams to showcase their talents, with Fiji leading throughout, finishing the first quarter at 13-9, the second at 21-19, and the third at 35-27.

Jofiliti Veikoso, the team manager for the Fiji Pearls, reflected on the squad’s ability to quickly gel despite a short preparation time. A significant advantage was the inclusion of many players from the Baby Pearls under-21 team, which recently competed in the 2025 World Netball Youth Cup in Gibraltar. Veikoso acknowledged that the recent experience of these younger athletes played a crucial role in their performance.

Former Fiji Pearls player Alisi Nawele, representing the British Army team, expressed her gratitude towards supporters and families, emphasizing the significance of the friendly match. She noted how fulfilling it was for the trio of Fijian players, including herself, Adi Vakaoca Bolakoro, and assistant team manager Adi Maria Matau, to return home and engage in the game.

The event was organized by the Petero Civoniceva Foundation, which collaborates with the Fiji Sports Commission to provide athletes opportunities to display their skills through various competitions. This initiative not only fosters talent but also nurtures a spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship, inspiring future generations in the sport.

The successful outcome in this friendly match serves as a hopeful indicator of the Fiji Pearls’ potential as they aim for greater achievements in international netball, building on their recent experiences and fostering the growth of the sport in Fiji.
