Approximately 54 players have been selected for the Fiji Pearls extended squad as they kicked off their initial off-season training session last Saturday. Under the guidance of head coach Una Rokoura, the team will be identifying top talent from the upcoming 2024 FinanceHub Super League as well as from Netball Fiji’s affiliated district club competition.

The players participated in strength assessments at the Fiji Rugby HPU Gym before proceeding to the USP Gymnasium to complete a fitness yoyo test. Rokoura emphasized that this is just the start of the Pearls’ off-season preparation efforts.

“This is the first phase of our off-season preparation. We wanted to gather everyone to evaluate their fitness after a long netball season,” remarked Rokoura. “Our goal is to ascertain each player’s strength and fitness levels before we engage in five weeks of training leading up to the PacificAus Sport series next year.”

The extended squad will continue their training over the next five weeks, during which the coaching staff will maintain their selection process.

This off-season training signals a positive step forward for the Fiji Pearls, highlighting their commitment to physical readiness and team cohesion as they prepare for upcoming competitions. Through rigorous training and assessments, the team is laying a strong foundation for success in the year ahead.

Summary: The Fiji Pearls have launched their off-season training with 54 players, focusing on fitness and strength assessments, as they prepare for the upcoming PacificAus Sport series under coach Una Rokoura.
