The Fiji Pearls netball team kicked off their preparations with a focused fitness training session at the FMF Gymnasium in Laucala Bay, Suva. A total of 56 players from seven different districts gathered to begin their training for the upcoming PacAusSports Series in Brisbane, Australia, which is scheduled for next month.

Head coach Jioweli Vakamoce led the session and explained that the players would undergo various fitness tests designed to measure key attributes. “We’ve started with a few components of fitness and there were five we focused on today,” Vakamoce noted. These key components included agility, endurance, vertical jump height, and core strength.

Vakamoce emphasized the importance of assessing the players’ current fitness levels as they prepare to improve their skills over the next five weeks. “We need to know where they are right now so we can gauge our training needs moving forward,” he explained.

In light of their male counterparts’ recent success, having won the Men’s Netball Nations Cup in Singapore, Vakamoce expressed optimism about the Fiji Pearls’ potential for improvement. “I’m hoping for the best, and I believe this achievement will motivate the Pearls to perform even better. We are also aiming to improve our ranking,” he stated. Currently, the Pearl’s ranking stands at 14th with a total of 79 points.

Overall, the training marks the beginning of a new season filled with potential and the opportunity for growth in the team’s performance. With a considerable focus on fitness and skill enhancement, the Fiji Pearls aim to not only compete but also pave the way for future successes on the international stage. Their preparation reflects a commitment to excellence and a hopeful outlook for upcoming challenges.
