The position of head coach for the Fiji Pearls has attracted only two applicants, both of whom hail from abroad. This information was confirmed by RubyAnn Sorovaki, the president of Netball Fiji, following the advertisement of the position on November 5. The application period closed on November 22, and Sorovaki noted that interviews for the candidates would begin in the next two weeks, with the final appointment expected to be made before January.

Outgoing coach Unaisi Rokoura informed that she is currently on her last week of duty as she takes leave, having indicated that her contract was not renewed. She has submitted her application to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) position, which, along with the coach’s role, has seen the terms of both officials conclude this year after having been appointed in late 2021.

In addition to the coaching vacancy, Sorovaki mentioned that four local candidates will be interviewed for the CEO position, with both the new coach and CEO expected to be announced by the end of this month.

On another note, regarding the previously proposed Pacific Series that was to be discussed with Netball New Zealand earlier this year, Sorovaki explained that discussions were halted due to the need for improved funding and team preparations. This decision was made to ensure that proper arrangements could be made for the expectations of hosting such a significant event.

This situation reflects a dedication to finding the right leadership both in coaching and management for the Fiji Pearls, which is essential for the team’s growth and future success. As they seek out international talent for the head coach position, the leadership aims to build a strategic plan that will enhance their competitiveness on the regional and international stage.

Summary: The Fiji Pearls coaching role has received two overseas applications, with interviews set to take place soon. Meanwhile, the search for a new CEO is underway, focusing on local candidates. The importance of thorough preparations for future competitions is being emphasized.
