The search for a new head coach for the Fiji Pearls has yielded two international applicants, as confirmed by Netball Fiji president RubyAnn Sorovaki. The coaching position was advertised on November 5, and the application period closed on November 22. Sorovaki mentioned that interviews for the candidates will begin in the next fortnight, with the aim of appointing someone before January.

Interestingly, both applicants are from overseas, highlighting a potential shift in the coaching talent pool for the team. Sorovaki remarked, “Just two applicants, both from overseas. Both will be interviewed.” Meanwhile, outgoing coach Unaisi Rokoura stated that she is in her final week in the role as her contract was not renewed, having submitted her application to the CEO.

Both Rokoura and the CEO, whose terms ended this year after being appointed in late 2021, will be succeeded soon. In contrast to the head coach search, all four candidates for the CEO position are local applicants, which suggests a commitment to nurturing local talent in leadership roles.

Sorovaki also addressed the need for careful planning over the proposed Pacific Series, which was discussed with Netball New Zealand earlier this year. Initially conceived as a potential event, discussions led to the decision to cancel it to ensure that the team could be better prepared for future competitions.

Overall, despite the challenges faced by the Fiji Pearls, there’s an opportunity for a new beginning with the incoming coach and CEO. This could pave the way for fresh strategies and ideas that can elevate Fijian netball on the international stage.

Summary: Fiji Pearls head coach position received two overseas applications, with interviews set to start soon. Meanwhile, outgoing coach Unaisi Rokoura confirms this will be her final week, and the search for a new CEO has four local applicants. Plans for a cancelled Pacific Series were reevaluated for better preparations.
