The Fiji Pearls netball team commenced their training for the upcoming PacAusSports Series in Brisbane, Australia with a focused fitness session at the FMF Gymnasium in Laucala Bay, Suva. Yesterday, 56 players from seven different districts gathered to kick off their preparations.

Head coach Jioweli Vakamoce highlighted the importance of this initial training, which assessed the players’ fitness across five key areas: agility, endurance, jump height, and core strength. Coach Vakamoce emphasized the need to evaluate the players’ current skills and fitness levels post-New Year, as this would inform their training strategy for the next five weeks.

Despite a challenging start, Coach Vakamoce drew inspiration from the recent success of the men’s netball team, which brought home a victory from the Men’s Netball Nations Cup in Singapore. He expressed optimism that this achievement would serve as motivation for the Fiji Pearls to enhance their performance. Currently, the team is ranked 14th in the world with 79 points, and they aspire to improve their standings in this upcoming season.

This training session not only lays the groundwork for the Fiji Pearls but also embodies the spirit of determination and resilience within Fijian netball. The team’s ongoing commitment to fitness and skill enhancement reflects a hopeful outlook for their future matches.

Summary: The Fiji Pearls kicked off their training for the PacAusSports Series with a fitness session focusing on key components under the guidance of their head coach, Jioweli Vakamoce. With aspirations of improving their world ranking, the team is motivated by the recent success of their male counterparts.
