The search for a new head coach for the Fiji Pearls has yielded only two applicants, both from overseas, as confirmed by Netball Fiji president RubyAnn Sorovaki. The coaching position, which was advertised on November 5, closed for applications on November 22. Interviews for the candidates are set to take place within the next two weeks, with a new appointment expected before January.

Sorovaki noted, “Just two (applicants), both from overseas. Both will be interviewed.” Outgoing coach Unaisi Rokoura will officially conclude her tenure this week as she begins her leave, following the non-renewal of her contract. Rokoura, who worked alongside the CEO whose contract also ended this year, has submitted her application to the CEO position.

In addition to the coaching search, Sorovaki revealed that all four candidates for the CEO position are local applicants, and decisions regarding the new coach and CEO are anticipated by the end of this month.

Moreover, regarding earlier discussions about a proposed Pacific Series with Netball New Zealand, Sorovaki mentioned that the series was canceled in order to allow for more preparation time. The decision was made while exploring funding options and team logistics, highlighting a commitment to ensure a well-organized event in the future.

This development presents an opportunity for change and fresh perspectives in Fiji’s netball leadership, raising hopes for the future of the Fiji Pearls as they prepare for upcoming challenges.
