The search for a new head coach for the Fiji Pearls has attracted only two candidates, both of whom are from overseas. This information was confirmed by Netball Fiji president RubyAnn Sorovaki. The application period for the position, which was announced on November 5, closed on November 22. Sorovaki stated that interviews for the candidates would begin in the next two weeks, with the goal of making a new appointment by January.

Outgoing coach Unaisi Rokoura mentioned that this week would be her last, as she is set to take her pending leave. She indicated that her contract had not been renewed and that she had submitted her application for the CEO position as well. Both Rokoura and the current CEO, whose contract also expired this year, were initially appointed in 2021.

Additionally, Sorovaki shared that four local applicants would be interviewed for the CEO role, and both the new coach and CEO are expected to be announced by the end of this month. In terms of future developments, she addressed the proposed Pacific Series with Netball New Zealand, explaining that discussions were ongoing regarding funding and preparations, which ultimately led to the decision to postpone the series in order to better meet hosting expectations.

This transition period for the Fiji Pearls could signify a fresh start and an opportunity to innovate and revitalize the team’s strategy moving forward. The involvement of both overseas and local applicants may bring diverse perspectives to the organization, potentially enhancing the team’s performance on the international stage.

Summary: Fiji Pearls only received two overseas applications for the head coach position, with interviews planned for the next two weeks. Outgoing coach Rokoura will leave the position after her contract wasn’t renewed. The new head coach and CEO will be announced at the end of the month, with local candidates applying for the CEO role. The postponed Pacific Series aims for better preparedness in future events.
