The Fijian Parliament has officially approved its sitting calendar for 2025. During the announcement, Leader of Government Ro Filipe Tuisawau emphasized that this calendar is vital for the ongoing efforts of all six standing committees. These committees play a key role in reviewing pending annual reports and any legislative bills presented to Parliament.
Tuisawau encouraged Parliament members to collaborate effectively, highlighting that these committees serve as essential links between Parliament and the public.
The parliamentary session will kick off on February 24, with an opening address from His Excellency, President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu. The President’s speech will be debated during the first week of March, from the 3rd to 7th. Additional sessions are scheduled throughout the year, with key dates including the announcement of the 2025/26 National Budget on June 27 and a subsequent week-long debate from July 7 to 11. Other sittings will take place in August, September, October, and November, culminating with the prorogation of the session on December 8.
This structured calendar allows for a focused approach to governance, ensuring that important issues are addressed in a timely manner. The proactive planning is a positive sign for Fiji’s legislative process, paving the way for constructive discussions and community engagement throughout the year.
