The Fijian Parliament has officially adopted its sitting calendar for 2025, as announced today by the Leader of Government, Ro Filipe Tuisawau. This schedule is designed to facilitate the work of all six standing committees, allowing them to address pending annual reports and any legislation that may be presented to Parliament.
Tuisawau emphasized the importance of cooperation among the Parliament members, highlighting that these committees serve as vital links between Parliament and the public.
The upcoming session is set to commence with the opening by His Excellency the President, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, on February 24. During the first week of sessions, from March 3 to 7, there will be a debate on the President’s opening speech. Following this, a second week of discussions will take place.
Further sessions are scheduled for April 28 to May 2 and June 2 to 6, with the important announcement of the 2025/26 National Budget slated for June 27. A dedicated week of debate on the Budget will follow from July 7 to 11. Additional sittings are planned throughout the year, culminating in a prorogation of the Parliamentary session on December 8.
This structured calendar not only outlines the legislative agenda but also reflects a commitment to transparency and accountability within the Fijian government. By engaging with the standing committees and encouraging public input, the Parliament aims to foster a more collaborative and effective governance process.
Overall, these sessions present an opportunity for meaningful dialogue and progress on key issues facing the nation, providing hope for a productive legislative year ahead.
