Parliament staff have been motivated to stay united and focused as they embark on the final stretch of the current parliamentary term. Secretary-General to Parliament, Jeanette Emberson, emphasized the importance of making the remaining months the most successful yet during the inaugural SG Hour of 2026, a dedicated forum aimed at discussing workplace priorities, recognizing contributions, and outlining the future direction of Parliament.

During her address, Emberson highlighted that the staff’s responsibilities extend beyond mere administrative tasks; she referred to their work as a service to both God and the citizens of Fiji, underscoring its critical role in the nation’s democratic governance. She stated, “The work we do in Parliament is not simply administrative; it is the backbone of democratic governance in Fiji. Every report prepared, every committee supported, and every system maintained strengthens the transparency and accountability our citizens rightly expect.”

Emerson praised the dedication and professionalism exhibited by the Parliament staff over the past year, acknowledging that their unwavering efforts facilitate the seamless functioning of legislative processes, committee operations, and institutional systems.

As the current parliamentary term approaches its end, Emberson warned that the demands on staff are set to rise, with an increase in legislative activities, busier committees, and heightened expectations from both Members of Parliament and the public. She encouraged them to be steadfast and committed, approaching the upcoming months with a sense of unity and purpose to maintain the dignity, transparency, and accountability of Fiji’s Parliament.

The emphasis on unity and commitment among Parliament staff reflects the ideal of a collaborative environment designed to uphold democratic values, promising a robust conclusion to the parliamentary term.
